It's a tradition as old as time... New Years resolutions. Some random website claims the first recorded New Years resolutions were made by the Babylonians 4000 years ago; which revolved around returning borrowed farm equipment, as I guess the New Year coincided with the start of their growing season. For whatever reason, we continue this tradition of resolving to improve ourselves every year on the new year... which is really just an arbitrary point in time.
I suppose I will stop pondering why we wait until this specific day to set down a path of self improvement, when we should be doing this every day any time of the year. So anyways, the follower that I am, I too set resolutions on the new year; as can be seen from prior entries on this blog.
This most recent New Years (as with the last one), my friends and I gathered at one of our houses to drink away 2010 and share with each other our goals for 2011. Only, I couldn't drink due to being on antibiotics that doesn't mix well with alochol... but that's another story. My goal is probably one of the most common, if not THE most common among Americans... to lose weight. I enjoy sharing my goals with my friends, as I know they'll be supportive of my endeavor.
Have I started? Actually, I started a week prior to the end of the year. I had been reading "The Four Hour Body" by Timothy Ferris and picked up a few ideas from that with regards to weightloss, the biggest being a change in my diet; which used to be eat and drink anything and everything to a diet plan called the Slow Carb Diet. This diet is summed up as: No white carbohydrates, no fruits, no dairy. This pretty much leaves me with meat, beans, and veggies. It does specify taking a day off once a week to eat whatever your stomach desires. You gotta like that!
Having started this diet, I've become more interested in other health related aspects. I'm thinking 2011 will be a year of experimentation; which will hopefully lead to a new and improved me.

You've got my support! Definitely should go on some awesome hike or other coolness (the kayak trip that we never did?) if we meet up this year up there or down here.
For sure! Preferably, both up here AND down there!
